Summary
The Marnet (Marine Atlantic Regions Network) project is a transnational co-operation initiative consisting of eight partners from the five member states of the Atlantic Area, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme 2007-2013. Over the past two years Marine Socio Economists, Regional Authorities and Researchers have worked together to collect reliable and comparable marine socio economic data across the partner regions. The results of the Marnet project will be presented to the Forum Do Mar Conference on May 28th 2014, in a transnational event organized by CIIMAR from Portugal. An Overview of the project will be presented by the Lead Partner, the Border Midland and Western Regional Assembly from Ireland. This will be followed by contributions from several partners which will include IFREMER from France on the Framework of Indicators, the National University of Ireland on the development of the Marnet Network, the University of Stirling from Scotland in respect of the Atlas of Indicators, and the University of the Basque Country from Spain and CIIMAR on the practical application of the Marnet data to everyday scenarios. It is also envisaged that a representative from the EU Commission will address the conference contributing to the relevance of Marnet to the Atlantic Maritime Strategy.
